Class of 1959
I
am Lou Wagner, grad of Everest Class of ’59. While there I played football
(for Howie Stiehm), basketball, and baseball, played trumpet in Charlie
Emerson’s band, studied some and really enjoyed my classmates. I got my BS at
the U of Wisconsin, Madison, in Economics, was commissioned 2nd Lt.
in the US Army in 1964 and became a Maintenance Officer. I trained in
Aberdeen
,
MD
and served with the 536th Ordnance Company at
Ft.
Lewis
,
WA
. We deployed to An Khe,
Vietnam
in 1965 where we supported the 1st Cavalry Airmobile Division. Upon
completion of my active duty obligation, I returned to the
US
and got my MBA from the
Wharton
School
of the U of Pennsylvania in 1967. During this time I married Sandy Brumley,
also a UW grad, and we had two children, Karl & Kris. I got a job with The
Pillsbury Company in
Minneapolis
and held various Sales, Finance and Marketing positions for ten years. In 1977
I got the opportunity to start my own restaurant business in
Manhattan
,
KS
. I bought a Burger King Franchise there and over the next ten years, built or
bought six more stores throughout central
Kansas
. I sold the operations of these stores in 1987 and did various consulting jobs
for the next three years before retiring to
Frisco
,
Colorado
. Since that time I taught and guided skiing at
Copper Mountain
,
Colorado
, served as President of the Summit Chamber of Commerce and the Summit Rotary
Club. Unfortunately, my wife of 38 years passed away in 2002. I have often been
thankful for selling the business and moving to
Colorado
with her because she loved the mountains and we got twelve great years together
before she died. Since that time I found a new “love of my life” Sandy
Mortensen. She is also a UW grad (who lived just around the corner from where I
did and dated some of my fraternity brothers) whom I never met while there. She
is the divorced mother of four children with a ranch. Today we enjoy skiing,
golf, tennis, travel, seven grand kids, discussing investments and orchestral
music.
Sincerely yours,
Lou
Wagner
