Conference 2011 I just wanted to let you know about the very informative
conference I attended in Madison, WI on March 20- 22, 2011 that was organized by
the Wisconsin Educational Media and Technology Association (WEMTA). The conference provided many learning opportunities and I
attended several sessions. Below
are some of the workshops I went to during the conference. Dignity in a Digital Age: A Framework for Teaching Online Safety
by Margene Anderson, Eastside Elementary, Sun Prairie – A simple and easy way
of introducing and teaching digital citizenship to children and adults at all
levels. The presentation was based
on current research into children’s online behavior trends and focused on
cyber bullying, misuse of text messaging, exploitation and empowering children
to make good decisions. What’s In Your Gear Bag? by Chad Kafka – As a technology
coach and integrator, he shared the latest gadgets, apps, websites and other
tools of the trade. Participants
could also share their ideas with him at http://tinyurl.com/wemtaGearBag The Power of the MP3 Player by Karie Huttner – MP3 players can
play an important part of developing literacy and content area knowledge.
I learned how the Glacier Edge Elementary School is using MP3 players to
support second language learners in a home literacy program that supports
content area learning. Ide@s by Jeff Horney – Ide@s is Wisconsin’s premier
educational web portal for teachers and students.
Now in its fourteenth year, it has expanded to bring the best web
resources into Wisconsin schools. This
site has thousands of lesson plans, public domain images and student and teacher
resources – all available for free! Elementary Collaborative Projects by Chad Lehman –Another
great session where Chad shares successful, collaborative technology projects
that are simple to do, fun for students and also involve the standards. Books, Authors, Literature…TeachingBooks.net on BadgerLink for K-8
Schools by Carin Bringelson and Nick Glass – TeachingBooks.net is a
wonderful resource that provides recent author interviews and a huge variety of
information tools on books, authors and literature for educators. I appreciate the opportunity to attend this conference and look forward to sharing this new information with my students and staff. |
