“If you carry your childhood with
you, you never become older.” ~ Tom Stoppard I
was born in Janesville, WI and my family moved to Stetsonville, WI when I was
less than one year old. I grew up
on a dairy farm and attended both parochial and public schools in the area.
I graduated from Medford Senior High School in 1987.
I am the youngest of five children. I
can confidently say that being raised on a dairy farm, my parents taught me by
example - the value of a strong work ethic and the importance of family.
Those are characteristics I will forever cherish. "Intellectual
growth should commence at birth and cease only at death." ~ Albert Einstein
I
attended UWC-Marshfield/Wood County in Marshfield, WI and graduated with an
Associate of Science degree in 1989. From
there I transferred to UW-Superior in Superior, WI and in 1992 graduated Magna
Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Elementary Education
with a double minor in Library Science and Social Studies. The
D.C. Everest School district hired me in April of 1992 as the library media
specialist for Schofield, Easton and Hatley Elementary Schools.
It was thrilling to have a job before graduating! By
1995 I had graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Master of Library and Information
Science degree from UW-Milwaukee. Since
that time I have obtained 36 credits beyond that degree in postgraduate work in
education and technology courses. “An education isn't how
much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It's being able to
differentiate between what you know and what you don't.” ~ Anatole France Professional

“ah-ha” moment Last year I received a letter from a former student
thanking me for helping to create within her a love of reading.
She now plans on becoming a librarian herself so she can pass on her own
passion for reading to others. Needless
to say getting that letter made my day… “Perhaps no place in any community is so totally
democratic as the town library. The only entrance requirement is interest.” ~

Affiliations I
have been a member of the following organizations for several years:
American Library Association, Wisconsin Educational Media and Technology
Association and Cooperative Children’s Book Center. “A
person practices the art of adventure when they break the chain of routine and
renew their life through reading new books, traveling to new places, making new
friends, taking up new hobbies and adopting new viewpoints.” ~ Wilfred
Peterson Hobbies
and Talents I love to spend time with my family.
Reading with our son is especially enjoyable and we have fun visiting the
public library together every week. I
also enjoy going for long walks, golfing, fishing, riding our motorcycle with my
husband, cooking with my Mom, gardening, listening to a variety of music and
watching classic comedies that make me laugh until I cry.
Faith is an important part of my daily life and I try to devote myself to
prayer as often as possible. I love
to write and read – especially biographies.
I also enjoy corresponding with old friends by handwriting good
old-fashioned letters and sending them in the “snail” mail.
Art is another passion of mine – especially pastels and sketching. My personal mission can be summed up by the words, “Do
unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Most people who read the previous line instantly recognize
what is commonly known as the “Golden Rule”.
It is a timeless and universal teaching. In a time period where we are inundated with computers,
texting, cell phones and multi-media entertainment, it is my hope to remind
people of what unites us as human beings – our ability, and our choice, to be
kind and compassionate to others, through our words and our actions. “How far
you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with
the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerate of the weak and the
strong. Because some day in life
you will have been all of these.” ~George Washington Carver |
