Technology and Information Literacy Check List

Kindergarten

One of our goals in the D.C. Everest School District (DCE) is to assist students as they find and use ideas and information in a variety of forms and formats to meet their personal and academic needs.

It is our belief that a successful library program involves many people working together.  Our library "team" consists of the library teacher collaborating with interested classroom teachers and specialists to create lessons that reflect the curriculum of each grade level.

In order to make that happen, planning calendars and open communication needs to take place.  The library teacher also needs cooperation from other "team" members including the library assistant, building principal, computer technician and technology coordinator.

With this goal in mind, by the end of Kindergarten, students should have had the opportunity to discuss or do the following:

Access:

bulletCheck out and return library materials in a timely fashion.
bulletHandle library materials appropriately.
bulletKnows that help can be requested from library staff.
bulletKnows that the library has a specific organization of materials.

Research:

bulletInterprets objects, people and settings in pictures.
bulletKnows the difference between fiction and non-fiction.

  Communication:

bulletTalks about stories.
bulletCan retell a story in his/her own words.

  Resource Selection and Evaluation:

bulletSelect materials for personal enjoyment.
bulletUses pictures to tell a story.
bulletKnows what an author and illustrator do.

  Technology:

bulletShows respect for the computer lab, the people in it and the work they are doing.
bulletFollow district and school policy guidelines using all forms of technology.
