DRESSING AND GROOMING

The school does not have an official dress code. We rely on parents to see that their children are properly dressed for school. Clothing should be in good taste and of such a nature as to not disrupt the educational process. Garments that publicize tobacco use, alcohol, or drugs, shirts with spaghetti straps or midriff tops, etc., are not acceptable.

WINTER RECESS POLICY

Please be aware that ALL students will go outside for their recesses and noon periods unless the temperature and wind chill combined is below zero. To protect students from the winter elements, we ask parents to monitor their child’s winter dress to include a warm jacket, cap, mittens/gloves, snow pants, and boots. All items should be marked with the child’s name. Thank you for helping us keep your child(ren) safe and healthy during winter!

ATTENTION! ATTENTION!!

STUDENTS LEAVING SCHOOL EARLY

At times, it may be necessary for you to schedule an appointment or an emergency occurs which requires an early release of your child(ren). If you are aware of the appointment/situation in advance, please send a note to school informing the teacher of the early release. The child will be sent to the office to wait to be picked up. In the event of an emergency, come to the office and request the early dismissal of your child. The teacher will be contacted and the child instructed to come to the office. This procedure will be followed for your child's protection.

PARENTS/VISITORS/VOLUNTEERS AT ROTHSCHILD SCHOOL

Parents are welcome to observe the students at work and at play within the classroom and on the school grounds. One of the best ways to understand the classroom program of your child is to visit the classroom. Advanced arrangements are encouraged to avoid visiting the classroom during a critical testing period or recess.

All parents/visitors/volunteers in school buildings are required to check in the main office to obtain a numbered visitor’s identification badge. When the parent/visitor/volunteer leaves the school building, they must return the badge to the school office. When parents accompany their children to their classrooms to drop them off or to talk to their child’s teacher, badges must be worn.

As part of the D.C. Everest District’s safe school policy, visitors are required to register in the school office and obtain a visitor’s pass.

WHY WE ASK PARENTS TO WAIT IN THE LOBBY

Parents must sign their children out and wait for them in the lobby when picking them up after school. We do this for security reasons and the safety of our students.

It’s unfortunate that our community has changed and that students are not as safe in school as they might have been a generation ago. The recent event of a sex offender being released to our school neighborhood and the recent shootings in schools across the United States are examples of circumstances that give us increased concern for student safety. Another factor is the number of non-custodial parents of students at Rothschild School.

The reason we ask adults not to walk our halls during school hours is that we want staff to be able to easily notice, observe, and recognize the people in our halls. If many parents are in the halls, each becomes “just another face in the crowd” and staff are less likely to take note of an individual who should not be in the halls.

So when we ask you to check in at the office and to wait in the lobby, it is not because we think you might harm a child. It is because we want to make it easy for staff to notice and identify those rare individuals who might be in the halls for the wrong reason.

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have further questions, please call Mr. Foreman at 359-3186.

STUDENTS LEAVING AFTER SCHOOL
Children being picked up after school MUST have a note stating this fact. It is the only way the teacher knows whether or not they should be put on a bus. ANY CHILD WITHOUT A NOTE WILL BE PUT ON THE BUS if there is no one here to meet them at dismissal time. Also, please make your plans for picking up your child before school. The volume of calls coming in is VERY high (asking to give students notes either to take the bus or not to.

THE SCHOOL DAY

8:45 a.m.-3:31 p.m.

Supervision of students on the playground begins at 8:30 a.m. The bell for the start of instruction rings at 8:45 a.m. and school dismisses at 3:31 p.m. Students who are being dropped off should arrive between 8:25-8:35 a.m. Because many students are dropped off in front of the school, your cooperation in driving safely and maintaining the traffic pattern is appreciated.

PARENT REMINDER

Please remember that at all times you should stop at the office when entering our building to sign in and get a “building pass”.

SCHOOL STORE
The Rothschild School Store is open every Tuesday morning during the recess. There are school supplies, candy, gift items and much more.

Anyone wishing to purchase items at the School Store should stop by during the morning recesses.

A NOTE FROM THE HEALTH ASSISTANT

It is district policy that you keep your child(ren) home until his/her fever has been less than 100 degrees for 24 hours without the use of medications to prevent or reduce fevers. Also, please keep your child home if he/she has vomited within the last 24 hours.

Thank you for your assistance to provide a healthy school environment.

HEALTH CORNER

WELLNESS

Like reading and writing, brushing teeth, washing hands, learning good food habits is a life skill that can contribute to your personal wellness. Here are a few good food habits to think about:
Give your child enough table time.
Be a good role model. Your child watches what you eat.
Skip the urge to reward, punish, or appease your child with food.
Instead, use a non-food approach to reward, punish, or appease your child.
